Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, and other franchises who have very little focus on characterization in their home games won't suffer from this. These are considered to be the best ones. If you have a 3DS, I recommend Awakening (the game Chrom, Lucina, and Robin are from) and Three Houses (the game Byleth is from) is on the Switch.

Then you might have a newfound appreciation for the series and its characters. I said all that to say it might be in your best interest to try the Fire Emblem games out for yourself. Robin is a tactician who prioritizes numbers and skill in a war setting, Ike is a rough yet chill mercenary who wants to avenge his father, and Roy is a 15-year-old pacifist who doesn't want to fight at all, but has no choice to save his people. Likewise, the FE characters have their own personalities and lengthy stories that just can't be conveyed all that much due to the limited nature of this game. Cloud is self-explanatory because he comes off as a complete edgelord in this game (no thanks to being Japanese only) when in Final Fantasy VII, he's just a laid-back guy that doesn't want the world to end. Shulk is loud and excitable in this game, yet in Xenoblade Chronicles, he's an eccentric gearhead that takes time to think about his decisions and only gets heated in battle. Other RPG characters like Shulk and Cloud suffer from this as well. It's not going to be easy to translate one's personality from these types of games into a crossover game where talking and interaction is fairly limited. It's extremely difficult to gain information about who these characters are when each of their games is easily 80-100 hours long each.
It's so disappointing when they could've added things like the Devil Axe/Sword that deals heavy damage but also self-damage, randomized tomes/spells, or hammers. Oh and Fire Emblem also has only one item. Garreg Mach is the only other one to do so but that leaves FE with only two actual stages that mean something while the other two could easily be from any other game series. Castle Siege and Coliseum are just generic locations found throughout the franchise while Arena Ferox is the only stage that's from an actual location in an actual game in the series. Pokemon and Mario also get stages that represent various games in their respective franchises as well.įire Emblem meanwhile, gets stages that don't really represent anything at all. Wind Waker (Pirate Ship), Majora's Mask (Great Bay), TP (Bridge of Eldin), SS (Skyloft), BOTW (Great Plateau Tower), and so on. Legend of Zelda has loads of items and like 8 or so stages that represent major locations from each of its games. Sat 24th Apr everyone keeps forgetting that Fire Emblem really only gets representation through its characters and nothing else.
